OpenAI, the company known for developing the popular ChatGPT, is reportedly in talks to secure billions of dollars in a new funding round that could elevate its valuation to over $100 billion, as reported by the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday.
The funding round is anticipated to be led by venture capital firm Thrive Capital, which is expected to invest around $1 billion, the report stated, citing sources familiar with the discussions.
Tech giant Microsoft, a key supporter of OpenAI, is also likely to contribute to the funding, the report added.
Representatives from OpenAI, Microsoft, and Thrive Capital were not immediately available for comment when approached by Reuters.
ChatGPT, a chatbot capable of producing human-like responses to user prompts, has significantly boosted AI’s popularity, driving the San Francisco-based firm’s valuation to new heights.
