After a state legislature resolution congratulating Eknath Shinde on his achievement, a dispute arose over comedian Kunal Kamra’s purported anti-Shinde statements.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said on Monday he would always stand by the common man and that he has adopted Bal Thackeray’s philosophy, that is 80 percent social work and 20 percent politics.”
These remarks followed a resolution in the state assembly welcoming Shinde on being conferred with a prestigious award of the Warkari community, called “Adya Jagatguru Shri Sant Tukaram Maharaj Puraskar”, earlier this month.
Amid controversy around stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s purported remarks against Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde, the motion was passed.
The opposition has sided with Kamra, despite chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’s demand that the comic apologize for “insulting” his deputy. Shinde hasn’t yet offered a statement on the subject, though.
He stated the Sant Tukaram Award is for the people of Maharashtra and is dedicated to them in response to the resolution honoring him.
“Throughout my forty-year career, I have adhered to Balasaheb Thackeray’s 80 percent social work and 20 percent politics principle, and I have committed to continuing to work for the common man,” the deputy chief minister stated.
Not just because of his works as a chief minister, but the state has given a landslide victory to the Mahayuti comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP. “We shall continue to work for the people. Our responsibilities have grown,” said Shinde.
He claimed to view himself as a “common man.” “We must improve the lives of the people and turn the average person in the state into a superman,” he continued.
Kamra allegedly called Shinde a “traitor” and made fun of him while performing at the Habitat Studio in the Khar neighborhood of Mumbai.
In order to portray Shinde’s 2022 insurrection against Uddhav Thackeray, the stand-up comedian allegedly altered a Hindi song from the movie Dil Toh Pagal Hai.
According to sources, Kamra was the subject of a formal complaint filed by the Mumbai police for uttering disparaging remarks about Shinde.
Forty Shiv Sena employees were also charged by the police with vandalizing the Habitat Studio, which is located in a hotel, and Kamra’s show, which featured the “gaddar” (traitor) statement against Shinde.
The studio is located in the Hotel Unicontinental, where a number of Shiv Sena employees gathered on Sunday evening. According to the authorities, they damaged the studio and portions of the hotel grounds.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called for Kamra to apologize for “insulting” Shinde on Monday, while police detained 12 members of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena for reportedly looting the location where Kamra made the “traitor” comment.
