Hustle culture, defined by the relentless drive for success and heightened productivity, often exerts excessive pressure on employees to push themselves harder and work longer hours. While some individuals may embrace this mentality, the practice comes with serious consequences.
The continuous strain of chasing success while neglecting a healthy work-life balance can result in burnout, heightened anxiety, and adverse effects on both mental and physical well-being. CEO of Swiggy Food and Marketplace Rohit Kapoor believes hustle culture is a bad idea, even though many influential people in the sector support it. At a recent event, he shared his opinion that working late into the night at the cost of one’s health and personal relationships is counterproductive.
Speaking with Shradha Sharma at Techsparks, an event held in Bengaluru, Kapoor noted that while some days require working late, it should not be a daily occurrence. “Those who claim to work until 3 am often fail to mention that they arrive at the office by 1 pm the next day,” Kapoor remarked in a video. He expressed his discontent with this work pattern and urged people to prioritize time with family and loved ones.
Kapoor emphasized that while hard work is essential, one should not take it to the extreme, sacrificing personal life in the process.
With over 32,000 likes, the video has sparked significant attention, with many viewers agreeing with Kapoor’s perspective. Some even voiced strong opinions about how hustle culture is frequently glorified and should be challenged.
Social media shares thoughts:
“One Instagram user quipped, ‘Narayan Murthy must be getting panic attacks watching this,’ referring to his controversial suggestion that young professionals should work 70 hours a week. Echoing the sentiment, another added, ‘Narayana Murthy is probably crying in the corner.’
A third praised Kapoor, writing, ‘Finally, someone spoke to us like a regular person.’
‘More people need to discuss this,’ a fourth user commented, while a fifth expressed, ‘At last, someone addressed this—people have been glorifying hustle culture for too long.’
