In the picture, Donald Trump is holding a commemorative bottle with a custom label reading ‘Inauguration of President of the United States Donald Donald J Trump’, which appears to be his favorite drink- Diet Coke.
Elon Musk, the head of Tesla, couldn’t resist gushing over Diet Coke on the social media platform X right after the picture of President-elect Donald Trump and the Coca-Cola chairman and CEO went online.
“The genius inventor of Diet Coke,” was Musk’s unadorned reaction to the image he shared on X.
In the picture, Trump, a long-time enthusiast of Diet Coke, was holding a commemorative bottle with a customized label reading “Inauguration of President of the United States Donald J Trump” dated January 20, 2025, the day of his impending swearing-in, posing beside Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey, who smiled.
The bottle came in a special red box along with a note that highlighted Coca-Cola’s contribution of $55 billion (Rs 4.51 lakh crore approximately) to the US economy and support of 860,000 jobs. The brand’s tradition of making special inaugural bottles goes back for decades, with past issues like Barack Obama’s inauguration bottles being listed on eBay for as much as $50 (Rs 4,100 approximately), the Daily Mail UK reported.
Musk’s endorsement of Diet Coke is hardly a surprise. In a past post on X, he confessed to having a “drinking problem” where he posted a picture of his bedside table with Diet Coke cans, a glass of water, headphones, and a pair of black boots shoved below.
During Trump’s first term, his love for Diet Coke became so legendary that, according to reports, he installed a button to summon the drink in the Oval Office itself.
