On Thursday, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson revealed that incidents involving alcohol-related disturbances on flights have significantly declined over the past two years. He credited this improvement to proactive reporting of disruptive behavior to authorities and enhanced training and support for cabin crew. This progress underscores the airline’s commitment to ensuring safety and maintaining order aboard its flights.
Strategies for Managing Disruptive Passengers
Wilson underlined the critical role of educating passengers and crew to promote a safe and respectful onboard environment. He emphasized the importance of making passengers aware of acceptable behavior during flights and empowering cabin crew to handle challenging situations confidently. He further assured that Air India’s policies provide strong support to crew members and that authorities take reports of unruly behavior seriously, fostering greater accountability.
The CEO highlighted that the airline’s comprehensive training programs have boosted the confidence of cabin crew in managing disruptive passengers. As a result, both the reporting of incidents and the actual occurrence of disturbances have decreased, showcasing the airline’s dedication to professionalism and passenger safety.
Expanding Workforce and Market Presence
Wilson also shared updates on Air India’s growth trajectory, noting the addition of approximately 9,000 new employees in recent years. This expansion has significantly reduced the average age of the workforce from 54 to 35, with cabin crew now averaging just 28 years old.
Currently operating a fleet of 300 aircraft with 30,000 employees and 1,200 daily flights, Air India has rapidly scaled its operations. The airline now commands a 29% share of India’s domestic aviation market, a significant leap from its single-digit share at the time of privatization.
