Radhika Gupta is now one of the most recognizable names in Indian finance. As CEO of Edelweiss Asset Management, she manages assets exceeding ₹1 lakh crore across mutual funds and other investment products. Gupta herself is valued at approximately ₹41 crores and has appeared as an investor on Shark Tank India, supporting startups.
Despite her significant wealth, Gupta is very cautious with her spending. In a recent episode of the Money & Mental Health podcast, she revealed that she hasn’t brought herself to purchase a luxury car and still gets excited about saving a few rupees with Zomato coupons.
‘No luxury car’
According to Gupta, she had more privileged classmates growing up. She needed some time to overcome her fear of money. She claimed that she has only felt secure for the past five years, but even so, she still finds it difficult to treat herself to upscale purchases.
She said, “I can’t bring myself to buy a luxury car. It’s within my budget, but I just can’t do it.” I promise myself that I’ll buy a luxury car every time I receive a bonus. However, I have never succeeded in doing so,” Radhika Gupta remarked.
When asked about her frugality, the Shark Tank India panelist attributed it to either her middle-class mindset or her “finance person” mentality. “I view a car as a depreciating asset,” she explained.
In her conversation with Sonia Shenoy, Gupta also mentioned that she continues to use Zomato coupons to score the best deals.
I get excited about saving 40 rupees with Zomato coupons,” she said.
The CEO of Edelweiss Asset Management also mentioned that she no longer worries about comments regarding her car or handbag as she once did. People saying, ‘Oh, you don’t have a fancy purse,’ when I graduated from college made me feel uneasy. Now, if people question why I drive an Innova, I simply think, ‘My choice, my life,’” she explained.
